Updated for August 2011 - the GRIGRI 2 is 20% lighter & 25% more compact than it's predecessor and now compatible with single ropes from 8.9-11mm (best performance is had with 9.4 - 10.3mm). The GRIGRI 2 helps you belay the leader or second with more confidence as well as rappel*. The Grigri 2 opens like a pulley (the rope is inserted - as indicated on the side plate), then locked shut and attached to your harness with your belay biner. Use both hands to pay out / take in rope - which feeds smoothly. Should the climber fall, rope tension will rotate the internal cam and apply the necessary friction for a quick stop - a great confidence boost to both belayer and leader. To "lower" or rappel, the rate of descent is controlled by your grip on the free end of rope and also the release handle - concealed along side frame... let go of the handle and you will come to a complete stop. Designed into the GRIGRI 2 is a 3:1 progressive descent control for smooth lowers and rappels.
