TIP:Altimeters are very useful
to the alpinist and mountain climber as an effective
tool for determining your position & forecasting
a change in the local weather. Altimeters detect
variations in barometric pressure which drop when
a storm moves in or you gain elevation. During periods
of low visibility utilizing your altimeter in conjunction
with a known geographic feature (trail, ridge, canyon)
will give your exact position. This is something
you can’t do with map & compass alone. |
